Few places on earth still feel this vast and untamed, where glaciers, fjords, and brown bears remain the undisputed authors of the landscape.
When to go
Late May through early September, when the days stretch long, the wildlife is at its most active, and the coastal waters and interior wilderness open fully. Your advisor times it to the light, the crowds and your own calendar.
The experiences
A sense of what this journey can hold — each one arranged privately and shaped to you:
- Private late-night aurora watches from a heated lodge vantage far from any town light, with a guide who reads the solar forecast.
- A quiet dog-sled outing through interior spruce forest under a low winter sun, arranged just for the two of you.
- Warm evenings by the fire between watches, with a caretaker who wakes you only when the sky truly begins to move.
- A private drive to a ridge or frozen lake chosen for its clear northern horizon on the strongest forecast nights.
A sense of the rhythm
Aurora travel is nocturnal and unhurried, built around dark clear nights rather than fixed days. You rest late, keep the evenings gentle, and stay ready to step outside the moment the lights stir. Between watches, the interior offers snow-quiet days entirely your own.
Stay put and wait or chase clear skies
A single dark-sky lodge lets you settle in and simply be ready night after night. Chasing takes you by private vehicle toward wherever the clouds break, trading comfort for a better chance under active skies. Late in the season we usually favor staying put, with chasing held in reserve.
How to do it well
The counsel our advisors give travelers planning this journey:
- Give yourself at least three nights; the aurora keeps its own schedule and patience is everything.
- Late August and September pair genuine darkness with milder, more comfortable interior nights.
- Choose a lodge well away from town glow; ambient light is the quiet enemy of a great display.
- Ask us to arrange a private wake-up service so you never miss the finest hour of the night.
What only your advisor can open
The difference between a good trip and an unrepeatable one is access — and access is a relationship, not a booking. Every guide, room and moment is chosen and sequenced for you.
Who it's for
Travelers who value privacy, time and doing it once — beautifully — and who would rather have one trusted advisor orchestrate every detail than assemble it themselves.
Estimated investment
From US$12,000 per traveler, based on double occupancy — scaled to your dates, party size and level of privacy. A starting point, not a final quote; confirmed once your advisor tailors the itinerary.
Designed entirely around you
Nothing here is a package. A Forest Travel advisor shapes the whole journey and stays one message away before and throughout your trip.
