Luxury Ski Hotels for 2026–27: Where to Stay in Six Resorts

Luxury Ski Hotels for 2026–27: Where to Stay in Six Resorts

For a luxury ski holiday in 2026–27 we would put you in one of twelve hotels across six resorts: The Little Nell or Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Four Seasons Vail or The Sebastian in Vail, Montage Deer Valley or St. Regis Deer Valley, Cheval Blanc or Les Airelles in Courchevel, Badrutt’s Palace or the Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz, and the Mont Cervin Palace or The Omnia in Zermatt. Booked through a Forest Travel advisor, each can carry Virtuoso privileges: a room upgrade on arrival, daily breakfast for two, a resort credit and early check-in or late check-out, when available.

Key takeaways
  • Twelve hotels in six resorts: Aspen, Vail and Deer Valley in the American West, and Courchevel, St. Moritz and Zermatt in the Alps.
  • Choose the hotel before the resort: where you wake up, relative to the lifts, shapes every day of a ski week.
  • Aspen, Vail and Deer Valley are the shorter journey from the United States; the Alpine three reward a longer stay.
  • Virtuoso privileges can include a room upgrade on arrival*, daily breakfast for two, a resort credit for spa or dining and early check-in or late check-out* (*when available).
  • Holiday and Presidents’ Week suites sell first: begin planning as soon as your dates are known.
  • A Forest Travel advisor books the hotel, the private instructors and the après tables you cannot book online; the planning fee is US$250 per itinerary.

How to choose: the hotel first, the resort second

A ski week is shaped less by the mountain than by where you wake up. Three questions settle most of it: how close do you want to be to the lifts, how much of the village do you want at the door, and who is travelling — a couple, a family with teenagers, a group that skis at different levels.

Distance from the lifts matters most. A ski-in, ski-out address means boots on at the door and no transfers; a village hotel trades that for restaurants, shops and an evening a short walk away. Neither is better — they suit different weeks. For the dates and the weeks that fill first, see luxury ski season 2026–27: opening dates and peak weeks; for a wider comparison of the resorts themselves, the best luxury ski resorts in the world.

Where we’d put you: twelve hotels in six resorts

These are the hotels we reach for first, two per resort, so you can choose by the kind of week you want rather than by a brochure. Your advisor confirms availability, the room category and the privileges for each property for your exact dates.

Aspen

The Maroon Bells above Aspen, covered in winter snow

The Little Nell sits at the base of Aspen Mountain, where the Silver Queen Gondola starts, so the day begins at the lift. Hotel Jerome, dating from 1889 and part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, is in the middle of town: the choice for a week of dining, galleries and après as much as skiing. See our Aspen guide and luxury skiing in Aspen and the Rockies, or compare Whistler or Aspen for a family ski trip.

Vail

Vail village and its ski runs on a clear winter day

Four Seasons Vail and The Sebastian are both in Vail Village, close to the lifts and to the pedestrian streets. Vail suits a group that skis at different levels: the mountain is large and the village is compact, so everyone can split for the day and meet for dinner.

Deer Valley

A chairlift and a mountain lodge at Deer Valley, Park City

Montage Deer Valley is ski-in, ski-out at Empire Pass. St. Regis Deer Valley stands on Bald Eagle Mountain, with a funicular linking it to the slopes. Deer Valley is known for its immaculately groomed runs and for service on the mountain as much as in the hotel.

Courchevel

The village of Courchevel under snow

Cheval Blanc and Les Airelles are both in Courchevel 1850, the highest of the resort’s villages and the best known, with direct access to the slopes of Les 3 Vallées. Choose Courchevel when the skiing is the priority; Courchevel or St. Moritz sets the two side by side.

St. Moritz

St. Moritz and its lake in winter

Badrutt’s Palace has stood above the lake since 1896. The Kulm Hotel, open since 1856, is where the story of Alpine winter tourism is traditionally said to begin, in 1864. Choose St. Moritz for the place as much as the skiing: the frozen lake, polo and horse racing on snow, and a long tradition of winter hospitality. See our St. Moritz guide.

Zermatt

The Matterhorn glowing in winter light above Zermatt

Zermatt is car-free, with the Matterhorn in view from the village. Mont Cervin Palace stands in the centre; The Omnia is a contemporary hotel on the hillside above the village with views of the mountain. See our Zermatt guide for how to reach the village and what it offers beyond the slopes.

Virtuoso privileges on a ski booking

Forest Travel has been a Virtuoso member since 2004. Booked through the network, a stay at a participating hotel can include a room upgrade on arrival, daily breakfast for two, a resort credit for spa or dining, and early check-in or late check-out. They add nothing to the cost of the stay. Upgrades and check-in times depend on availability, so we confirm them property by property before you travel.

When to book

Holiday weeks and Presidents’ Week fill first, and the best suites go with them. Start as soon as your dates are fixed: the earlier we plan, the more choice there is across hotel, suite category and private instructors. The opening dates and peak weeks are in luxury ski season 2026–27: opening dates and peak weeks.

What an advisor adds

The hotel is the visible part of a ski week. The rest is what you cannot book online: private instructors matched to each skier’s level, suites held for your dates, après tables and dinners, transfers, and a plan for a partner who does not ski (see the best luxury ski resorts for a partner who doesn’t ski). A Forest Travel advisor designs it end to end, and the planning fee is US$250 per itinerary. To begin, start a private consultation.

Common Questions

Questions, answered.

For 2026–27 we would put you in The Little Nell or Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Four Seasons Vail or The Sebastian in Vail, Montage Deer Valley or St. Regis Deer Valley, Cheval Blanc or Les Airelles in Courchevel, Badrutt’s Palace or the Kulm Hotel in St. Moritz, and the Mont Cervin Palace or The Omnia in Zermatt. The right one depends on how close to the lifts you want to be and who is travelling.

A ski-in, ski-out hotel puts you on or beside the slopes, so there are no transfers and the day starts at the door. A village hotel is a short walk or ride from the lifts and puts restaurants, shops and the evening closer. Both can be five-star; they suit different kinds of week.

Aspen, Vail and Deer Valley are the shorter journey from the United States, and each is compact enough to settle in quickly. Courchevel, St. Moritz and Zermatt are a longer trip that rewards a stay of a week or more. Your advisor matches the resort to the skiers, the dates and the kind of evenings you want.

At participating hotels, a Virtuoso booking can include a room upgrade on arrival, daily breakfast for two, a resort credit for spa or dining, and early check-in or late check-out. Upgrades and check-in times depend on availability, and we confirm them for each property before you travel.

As early as your dates allow. Holiday and Presidents’ Week suites sell first, and the best categories go with them. The earlier we plan, the more choice there is across hotel, suite and private instructors.

Yes. A Forest Travel advisor arranges private instructors matched to each skier’s level, along with après tables and dinners that are not available to book online, as part of a trip designed end to end.

Forest Travel’s planning fee is US$250 per itinerary. Hotel rates are those of the property, and Virtuoso privileges are added at no extra cost to you.
